Increasing numbers of over-65s are choosing to go on adventure-holidays, new research has revealed.
The study by Omnibus for Shearings Holidays found that one in 12 of this age group opts for breaks with an adventure element, while the same demographic is the second least likely to choose a holiday for its relaxation properties behind 16 to 24-year-olds.
A further 13 per cent of over-65s are increasingly going away on long weekends, the research found, with one in ten people aged between 45 and 55 taking the highest number of annual breaks out of all of the age groups surveyed.
"I thought it was fascinating how many over-65s are looking for action and adventure in their holidays and no longer just want to fly and flop," Karen Gee, sales and marketing director for Shearings Holidays, told Travel Weekly.
Meanwhile, a study by ExtremeGB.com recently found that 85 per cent of people who go on active holidays involving walking or cycling do not do so with the correct footwear.
