CBS Sports To Air '08 NCBA Championships:
April 10, 2008
CBS College Sports Network, in partnership with the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA), will host the 2008 Collegiate Boxing Championships from the Downtown Reno Ballroom in Reno, Nev. this Thursday, April 10 – Saturday, April 12. The Boxing Championships are part of the third annual Collegiate Nationals, a first-of-its kind event that crowns national champions in 11 categories.
Extensive television coverage of the Collegiate Nationals kicks-off with a special one-hour program airing on CBS-Sports on Sunday, May 25 (2:00 PM, ET). The show will launch eight consecutive days of Olympic-style programming on CBS College Sports Network, including the boxing competition on Monday, May 26 and Tuesday, May 27 (8:00 PM, ET; both nights), followed by individual sport highlight shows. In addition, full coverage of all the championship bouts will be available for free online at www.thecollegiatenationals.com beginning May 26.
Fans will get a better than ringside seat for the event through revolutionary “Ref Cams,” individual mounted cameras on the heads of the referees. The action is called by Carter Blackburn and Sean O’Grady, a former Championship boxer who compiled an 81-5 record during his professional career.
Lock Haven University (Lock Haven, Penn.) attempts to defend their 2007 title, and will again battle top-ranked teams including University of Nevada, Air Force, Navy and UNLV. Josh Wisniewski (Lock Haven), Travis Murray (Coast Guard), Jesse Horton (Air Force), Thomas Gennaro (Nevada) and three-time NCBA Champion David Schacter (Nevada) headline this year’s event.
In addition to the boxing competition, Reno will host the USA Weightlifting National Collegiate Weightlifting Championships. This year’s Collegiate Nationals competition will again bring together athletes from over 100 different colleges and universities across the country, and will ultimately crown National Champions in 11 categories.
Media are invited to attend the event. For more information about the Collegiate Nationals and boxing championships, go to www.thecollegiatenationals.com.
