Friends Blog: Circle-of-Friends News
Circle of friends:
Saturday, September 22, 2007 by Terry Rombeck
When Wooseung Hong moved to Lawrence in January, he didn’t know anybody, and he had never been to the United States.
“At the time, I was a stranger at KU,” the South Korean native says of his arrival at Kansas University. “I needed some friends and some help.”
Someone suggested he get involved with the International Friends organization on campus. He found exactly what he was looking for.
“The people are very nice,” Hong says.
Dozens of international students find the same thing when they arrive at KU each year — a group of people wanting to help them with English and explain American history and customs.
Friends Blog Comment:
Circle of friends denotes people with whom we feel like having something in common to share.
Now, how big can this circle be?
Or how close should we keep it, limited to one or two or something like that?
What is better? The depth or the width?
With depth, we generally mean emotional attachment. With width, we normally take it to be a casual attitude.
Both are defeating.
So what should we do?
Can we try going deep with any and everyone we come across, without getting emotionally attached to her/him?
This is where passion comes into picture. Every single person around me is my fellow human on earth!
I love them all irrespective of who or what they are.
