Carla Bruni
Bruni combines her music with the words of such poetic greats as Dickinson and Yeats.
We can be certain that when Dorothy Parker wrote, "Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses," she did not have in mind women like Carla Bruni, cruising the Pyramids in her Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses on the arm of her beau, the president of France.
Nevertheless, Bruni, who married Nicolas Sarkozy this month, drew her inspiration from Parker - as well as Emily Dickinson, W.H. Auden, Christina Rossetti, Walter de la Mare and Yeats - in an album that topped the pop charts last year in France and is being released in the United States. The album, "No Promises," features Bruni's smoky, French-accented voice half-singing and half-talking the English words of the poets to the accompaniment of her own music.

Dead Poets Society is an 1989 Academy Award-winning film directed by Peter Weir. Set in 1959 at a conservative and autocratic boys prep school, it tells the story of an English professor who inspires his students to change their lives of conformity through his teaching of poetry and literature.
It won the Academy Award for Writing Original Screenplay, and was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Robin Williams), Best Director and Best Picture. It also won the BAFTA Award for Best Film (the first Touchstone Pictures release to receive a best picture nomination).
