Definition of Politics
Whatever may the textbooks keep saying, but the ground reality is that politics is the game of power that the mighty play to hold their domination over the weak. Beneath all its masks, it is simply the adage that says might is right. The very scientific answers to the questions like 'what is politics', 'why is politics', 'concept of politics', and 'analyzing politics' expose its evil spirit that goes 180 degree against the spirit of freedom and democracy.
How can a game of power be a democratic one? And then we say there is democracy on earth! The very definition of politics proves this assertion wrong. The game of power is bound to be a dirty game. It becomes very clear to us as we talk of office politics, media politics, organizational politics, sexual politics, gender and politics, religion politics, or even family politics. We treat these areas of human action and interaction as being integral in them-selves. And if the game of power dirties them, we look down upon this game as such over there in these areas of our loving or responsible concern. But otherwise we give this game a freehand, and let it dirty the other areas of our life action and interaction! Why do we forget the definition of politics when we allow it to play its tricks over there? There is a nexus between the areas of importance in human life and politics as such. Either they affect politics this way or that, or politics affects them favorably or unfavorably, or both! The very definition of politics allows it to use any means whatsoever, in order to uphold and strengthen itself. Thus goes the nexus:
The definitions of money, of minority and majority, of media as business, of youth as power, of religion as following, of sports as they are designed, and of the very concept of power over others go hand in hand with the definition of politics. We take pride in studying politics. As if it is a great art to rule the world! In fact, we should be ashamed that we have given it the status of being a subject at all! We still tell the same old stories to our kids that start with the phrase - there was a king... And we never tell them that the king was nothing else but the biggest dacoit of the land! The biggest dacoit whom no other dacoit could call like that but for THE KING, saluting him on knees and paying his homage to him who was great, and whose wish just became the law of the land! That is what the real politics has always been! Real Clear Politics or Real Dirty Politics? The very definition of politics tells us the truth! In Bertolt Brecht's words: 'Sitting on their cozy thrones, and from there issuing commandments to rule the world; The rulers always kept telling us how difficult it was to rule for them, and it was not every Tom, Dick, or Harry's job to do so!' They fooled us a lot! But still we decorate this sub-level concept of politics with great adjectives like international politics, world politics, international politics news, current world politics, or even local politics and what else not! And it is American politics in the world today that decides which turn the world politics is going to take next. Isn't it a farce in itself? Why is it that there are considerably less women in politics ratio wise than in any other profession in the world? Does it not tell of their being more democratic by nature as compared with men? Women are less aggressive than men are. They do not want to dominate others as much as men do. That is what the definition of politics is! It were men who waged the most fatal political wars in the history of mankind. Women might not have done so, had they been at the helm of affairs. May be the world would have lived a more peaceful life then, and a more democratic one! And what about technology vs politics! Technology is mankind's best friend whereas politics, its biggest enemy. And then politics corrupts technology as well! The plain definition of politics tells why it does so. It turns atomic energy into an atom bomb and kills millions of people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki! A simple politics quiz will make it clear how much the common man hates the politicians on earth. If politics says it manages the administration in the society, it will have to accept that it is a poor manager too. Management of life is not such a trivial matter as can be taken care by the corrupt intentions of politics anywhere. Ultimately it is the right management only that we need doing in our life in order to make it worth living and enjoying every moment that of with all the democratic freedom at our behest and without being scared of any disturbance into it at the hands of any ill-intentioned politics.
