Definition of Travel
Have you ever wondered what the real definition of travel is? Travel simply means satiating your wanderlust. This wanderlust is one of the basic instincts we humans got as animals, just like the other instincts of hunger, thirst, sex, and interaction. Unless we travel, we are not able to keep our psycho-spiritual health intact. As human beings, it has become all the more important to us than it had been when we were mere animals on our fours!
We are no more animals now. We are more curious beings than animals are. So, we must know about our world around, the very first-hand. Now, how do we do that?  We visit places. But our visits have their fixed itineraries. That is not the spirit of travel. It is against the very definition of travel, in fact! Travel must be a curious suspense in itself. Just like life as such!
The definition of travel is not very different from the definition of life. You must not know in very much detail where you are heading to, and where you are going to land up tomorrow. Also there must be a suspense about which people you are going to meet, and which locations you are going to visit once you have landed up there! You will breathe the fresh air of spontaneity in your travel. Fixed itinerary package tours miserably lack the spirit of travel as well as go against the definition of travel in their hour to hour certainty of plan with their air travel schedule fixed by some travel agent in a travel agency.
That is why the great travelers on earth always went for the entire world travel without keeping any fixed itinerary in front of their eyes or even in their mind as well as without any travel insurance booked. Great were these travelers who read the real definition of travel to the mankind what the mankind was missing profuse! Jesus Christ, The Buddha, Nanak, Hwentsang, Columbus, Vasco De Gama, Fahyan, Rahul Sankrityayan, Ravindra Nath Tagore, Jiddu Krishnamurti and the like! Had they been on fixed itinerary tours, they would never have been able to do what they did during their travels through meeting people and mobilizing masses for the great causes that they stood for. I remember my courtship with my girl friend that is my wife now. I was staying in Delhi those days. As she came to visit me once in a while from her town nearby, what we did was just stand on the road and board any local bus without having the faintest idea as to where it was heading. As the conductor asked for the ticket - "where to?" - we said, "where the bus last takes us to!" The conductor smiled as if remembering his past romances and then handed us the ticket to the last stop where the bus route ended. He was learning our new definition of travel! The bus dropped us and we would roam around in the vicinity while eating, drinking and talking to the people around.  Then again would we stand on the road along and board another bus going to we didn't know where! And again another destination!
And again another travel! And again another destination! And so on till we did not fall tired. It used to be a real great date! With a real spirit of travel in it! And a new definition of travel explored! I again remember when once I met an Austrian on my way back from Manali in the bus we were traveling together in. It was summer and at every stop, he bought a cold soda and drank it along. I went curious - "why soda only?" - I asked him. "I drink it in place of water, it's harmless" - he said. Then we got engaged in conversation.
He told me that he worked for eleven months every year in his country and in the twelfth he left the job and set out on a traveling bout to some or the other far-off destination in the world; sometimes Brazil, at others Africa or China or like. Then, as his money ended, he would go back to Austria and start with another job. "So, is your one month over now?" - I asked. "I am here for the past eleven months!" - he smiled. "How come?" - I was astonished. "My money did not end!" - and he started laughing aloud - "I had brought it for one month here, but it's so cheap around...why should I go back until I am broke!" Again he laughed aloud. He had a traveler hidden inside his personality. He was living under the full suspense his travel deals offered to him. His discount travel was the best travel package I have ever come across till date. And he was setting a new definition of travel for his likes! Travel Channel is a cable television network telecasting travel documentaries like African animal safaris, tours of grand hotels, and visits to significant cities and towns. It must telecast this man's story in one of its shows!
Okay, what about hiring the services of a travel agency as you plan for a business travel for yourself, or a corporate travel for your employees, or else an adventure travel either for your own or for your staff? And the honeymoon travel for the new-weds! Either don't call it travel, or if you do, do infuse it with a spirit of travel too, i.e., the element of suspense along with the real definition of travel in it. So, do take the services of an agency but only up to the point of business, or corporate affairs, or adventure tools; and leave the travel part to the uncertainty of the suspense that this trip has in store for you!
