Greg Clark: Area getting new entertainment venues:
October 23, 2007
Not so long ago, cruising Noland Road was the biggest entertainment in Independence.
That was great for teenagers who wanted to show off their wheels, flirt with the opposite sex and clog parking lots by hanging out.
But it didn’t do much for adults or pre-teens. And too often, the cruising turned ugly.
Well, life on Noland has been far tamer in recent years, but a big upgrade in parks spending and a little creativity in a public-private development will soon fill much of the entertainment vacuum.
And it will happen in a far more wholesome manner than burning rubber.
Consider that, by next spring, folks will be able to play on numerous fields at the new Independence Athletic Complex, canoe in the 18-acre lake by the Bass Pro Shop and picnic in a nearby park. And they’ll still have a multipurpose events center and skating rink to look forward to in 2009.
Are we having fun yet?
If Independence residents can’t say yes now, they won’t be able to resist the affirmative in the near future.
Entertainment News Blog Comment:
It needs only a little creativity to design real creative entertainment venues where people of all age groups will feel equally awed and thrilled.
Life becomes all fun if we design our work places also with the same creative insight.
The same is true of homes as well!
