In a compelling presentation in Parliament yesterday, Opposition Chief Whip Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj charged that a company in which the brothers-in-law of UDeCOTT chairman Calder Hart were "the directors and shareholders" landed a $369 million contract to build the new Ministry of Legal Affairs Tower. The company, called CH Developments Limited, was formed just three weeks before UDeCOTT invited tenders for this project, Maharaj disclosed. Furthermore, the Chief Whip said the two brothers-in-law-Lee Hup Ming, who is Hart's wife's brother, and Mg Chin Poh, who is Hart's wife's sister's husband-claimed to be civil engineers on the bid forms. "But they never registered with the Board of the Association of Civil Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago. And from the registry in Malaysia they are not civil engineers," Maharaj said.
