Entertainment News Blog Posting 8 - Family Entertainment: November 13, 2007
Entertainment News Blog posts insightful comments on the latest international news that render us taken-aback in the domain of the entertainment facet of life.
It was with dismay that I read the front page article on Oct. 13 that informed the citizens of Rochester that three local businessmen were hoping to create an entertainment complex in southeast Rochester.
I wonder how many families in Rochester would consider a laser tag center and arcade "family" entertainment? As the mother of two young boys, ages 4 and 6, I can honestly say this is far from family entertainment.
I don't often spend time running around with my sons aiming guns at each other. And the thought of taking my kids to an arcade where I can watch them glaze over while playing idiotic and often violent games is anything but appealing.
Why can't developers and/or the city try creating a Children's Museum or a Science Museum? Or possibly an aquarium or zoo that offers animals other than those native to Minnesota?
I'd even prefer an amusement park with rides for children of all ages and maybe an IMAX theater over the proposed entertainment center.
Entertainment News Blog Comment:
Jennifer has already said what I had to but I will certainly like to add that our organized family entertainment is being poorly designed and taking us away from nature as much as it can.
Simply because what nature provides for entertainment comes for free and entertainment business can't earn money out of free offerings!
Hence it intentionally designs things and systems that take us away from nature as much as possible. The farther they take us, the more we pay them.
Aren't they taking us for a ride - a highly paid one for that matter?
Not only this, their designs are poisoning our kids' psyches as well!
What do you say, Jennifer?
