Family feud lands four in court:
4 Jul 2007
FOUR men who ended up in court after a feud between two families erupted into violence have been spared jail.
Burnley Crown Court heard Mohammed Afzal was attacked last July, but there had been no trouble since.
Aqeel Afzal, 26, Rabnawaz Khan, 32 and Gulfaraz Khan, 37 all of Garbett Street, Accrington and Mehboob Khan, 27, of Ormerod Street, Accrington, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
advertisementAll except Mehmood Khan were fined £500. He must hand over £300.
Nigel Booth, prosecuting, said Mr Afzal and some friends had been to a festival in Blackburn and arrived home.
Police had been called over an allegation and while an officer was there Mr Afzal and his friend went outside.
Mr Afzal saw Rabnawaz Khan, Mehboob Khan and Gulfaraz Khan get out of a vehicle.
Rabnawaz Khan was carrying an implement, like a crook lock.
Mr Booth said Mr Afzal was attacked and at one stage was on the ground.
The officer came out of the house and saw the defendant Afzal running along the road with what looked like a wooden stick.
The prosecutor said Mr Afzal suffered a cut lip and tongue.

Family Feud Causes 11-year-old to Shoot Cousin with Shotgun:
4 Jul 2007
"Brian called and told Randall 'I'll whip your butt like I did a long time ago,'" said neighbor Steve Powers. "And Randall said 'well, come on and do it big boy.'"
It was a fight between two cousins that began by an exchange of words. It escalated into punches, And then it took a turn for the worse.
Brian Usery's 11-year-old son, Jonathan, shot his cousin in the leg.
"He said 'shoot 'em, get him off me.' Told him to shoot him and the boy shot him," said Powers.
But that's not the way Brian said it happened.
"I would never tell my son to shoot somebody," said Brian. "I'm not that irresponsible. As far as him standing there with the gun, I know my son shouldn't have been there with a gun."
Brian says his son did not mean to shoot Randall. Instead, he was aiming for the ground to just scare him. Now, Randall is in the hospital, recovering from the gunshot wound.
The 11-year-old was charged with second-degree assault and his parents are out on bond.
Looking back, Janice Usery says she would have done things differently.
"I wouldn't have [given] him the gun," said Janice, "I would've kept it with me until I got dressed."
The parents, Brian and Janice Usery, were both charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and are out on a $1,000 dollar bond each.

Family Blog Comment: Too much of familiarity breeds contempt. We have taken our families for granted. We think we can afford to behave with them as we please, often ending into family feuds. And our pleasure is nothing else but our irritation over our social compulsion to keep dragging the relation even when it has already lost its shine and luster!
