The First Encounter

My family tree is the pedigree of my DNA extension.

We are what our DNA design is.

Our design extends into new ones through associating with another design resulting from a process called creative selection; and thus the new branches to the family tree keep getting added from time to time.

The new design is not a one to one replica of the old one, since it cannot be - it being the creative selection between the two old designs interacting to trans-create a spontaneously random one!

Still the new DNA is the offshoot of the old DNA.

It does resemble both of them to some extent.

It seems to impart a psychological extension to our entity and to our identity.

It's MY BLOOD after all! A proud family, that is!

All my family ties!

I need a family crest to uphold its pride.

And that is what the definition of family tree is!

All family activities revolve around family matters, whether big or small.

A bloody family feud, shameful family voyeurism, controversial family naturism, immoral family sex, sinful family incest,and even fatal family violence - all are quite common ugly family secrets of a big family circle.

At the other end of the spectrum, there is happy family, all family fun, deep family love, close family relationships, fondest family reunions, valuable family traditions, great family values and fun family movies together!

Family life today, whether a nuclear family or a joint one, has turned a complex amalgamation of the above two trends - the sweet and the bitter! A family man (like Griffin of Family Guy series!) is bound to live a tense family life under the circumstances along with the fun he squeezes out of it.

Focus on the family has loosened up more than it used to be before. Family planning is the order of the day.

Family poems and family quotes give us a great insight into the brighter and the darker sides of the entire family system on earth!

But are we our DNA design only?

And also, is the new DNA a faithful and a linear replica of the old one?

Both the questions answer a clear NO.

We are not our biological-self only - that would have limited us to be another animal on earth and nothing more at all!

But our gray matter earns us a personality too, which does NOT depend on our DNA design in any way whatsoever.

We are more our personality than our biological self.

We are more our human than our animal.

We are not our DNA design only.

And the new DNA may derive its characteristics from the inactive genes that are lying dormant in our DNA, and hence do not represent our biological self even.

The new DNA is not a faithful and a linear replica of the old one either!

It does NOT essentially resemble it. Another distant unrelated one might resemble it more!

Blood is not always thicker than water.

But we humans attach a great importance to the family tree, which we are offshoot of!

Are the family tree and the family history really as important as we take them to be in our human actions, human interactions, human associations and human relations?

A few days back, I got a photocopy of a circular, researched and tabulated by one of the members of my family tree, that showed my biological connection to the 10th Sikh Guru - Gobind Singh, i.e., my family tree.

Now, how does it make a difference to my life?

By that token, Isn't it that the entire population on the planet branches from one single large family tree, of which the stem must have been the very first monkey who would have stood on his (why his, why not her?) twos! We are family - one single family on earth!

I wonder, if it is so!

But once born to my parents, in what their (and now my!) family is - my first encounter with life, I must get my education right.
