Health magazine picks Myles for fight against diabetes:
November 2, 2007 by Dan Miner
Angela Myles had diabetes and a weight problem.
The Sanborn resident says she solved both with a strict diet and an eye on what’s important.
“I feel truly blessed,” she said. “My life is much better now.”
Myles, 37, was told by her doctor in August 2003 that she had diabetes — a disease she probably inherited from her father. She was put on a medication to regulate her blood sugar, but was determined to end her dependency on the pills and live a normal life.
She did that by losing 63 pounds, from 220 down to 157, and following a strict 1,200-calorie diet during the week. Last year, her doctor took her off the pills.
Myles was so successful that she is featured in this month’s issue of Health magazine under the headline “I did it,” and later, “Angela Myles changed her strategy, lost 63 pounds, and beat diabetes.” The feature corresponds with November, which is American Diabetes Month.
She had several interviews with reporters from the magazine, and was eventually flown to Boston for a night, put up in a downtown Radisson Hotel and given a photo shoot in a nearby suburb. All her expenses during the trip were repaid by the magazine.
In the feature, Myles chronicles how she gave up her late-night bowl of ice cream, drinks water to avoid snacking and stayed on track because she wanted to be healthy for her 13-year old son, Joshua.
Health News Blog Comment:
Don't forget to check the November issue of Health magazine under the headline "I did it," and later, "Angela Myles changed her strategy, lost 63 pounds, and beat diabetes."
Angela is only one such case as has come to the limelight courtesy Health magazine, but there is no dearth of such miracle cures taking place at individual levels all through the world.
The magazine features and articles can not cover all such cases.
