Smart TVs Could Be Next Wave in Home Entertainment:
October 24, 2007 by Dan Burrows
SO-CALLED SMART TVS, sets that are not only integrated into a home's computer network but also plug directly into the Internet, might become the next fixture in the digital living room. Or they could turn out to be a dumb idea. Though a niche product at the moment, manufacturers adrift in a sea of look-alike 42-inch LCDs are likely to make a big push into smart TVs over the next few years. Whether consumers will follow is where the picture gets fuzzy.
Considering all the music, photos and video we're hoarding on our hard drives, not to mention the increasing amount of entertainment content available online, smart TVs seem like a no-brainer. Cutting out the gadget middle man and networking the TV directly to the Internet is a proposition that should appeal to consumers, at least in theory. As for TV makers faced with the commoditization of their products and falling prices, smart TVs might be one of the few ways to stand out from the pack and maintain margins.
That's a fact of life in gadget land: Very few new bells and whistles come from consumer demand; they're foisted on us by the tech makers. And that's why even though consumers aren't clamoring for smart TVs today, there's little doubt that will stop the TV makers from trying to make them a part of our digital lives tomorrow.

The more home entertainment they are going on providing us with, the duller they are turning our homes!
Sweet homes are turning into bitter homes as well.
Will they provide us with the time required to use all these gadgets within those 24 hours that we require to share more with humans than with gadgets?
After all why do we need turning our homes into entertainment centers so much?
Has our life gone too dull to be able to live without a continuous supply of entertainment to us all through the day?
