Learn how to save a life:
December 19, 2007 by Cliff Davis
I saw a man save a life last week.
We were at a holiday party. People were talking, eating, enjoying themselves. Then a man began to choke. Just like that it can happen — and people die every year from choking — very, very quickly.
The human body is a marvel of engineering. Unfortunately, our food and our air supply start out going down the same pipe, which is not one of our better attributes. That leads to serious problems when one displaces the other. If you’ve ever been in such a predicament, you know the panic that seizes you, as you struggle against a sudden, unexpected enemy that knows no mercy.
We were blessed at that party, though. For calmly, quietly, another man stood up and walked over to the person choking. Calmly, quietly, he wrapped his arms around the man’s stomach, just below the rib cage and performed the Heimlich maneuver. One, two, three, four, five and the deadly piece of food was expelled and tragedy was averted.

We all sat back down, shaken but grateful.
Thank God for someone who knew that simple but critical technique. Many people in such a situation will try the old-fashioned back slap, which can be more harmful than helpful. Honestly, the Heimlich is no more difficult to perform than a slap and there is no excuse for any of us not to know it.
You ask the person to stand. You stand behind them. You tell them calmly, that you know the Heimlich maneuver. You place your arms around their waist. You make a fist, thumb towards the person, and place it just above their belly button — beneath the rib cage so as to not break any bones. You grab your fist with your other hand. You push your fist, upward, five times into their abdomen, hard enough to be effective. You save a life.
Life is precious and so very fragile. Don’t depend on someone else knowing what to do. Learn for yourself. If you need a picture, go to www.heimlichinstitute.org online.

News Blog Comment:
How to save a life is the best of all the skills and the most beautiful of all the arts we can learn here on earth. We must all make it a point to do in life.
But then how to heal a life is even a bigger art than that.
Humanity is more ill than it is in the danger of an imminent threat of death.
And unfortunately the medical science, despite all its good intentions, has not been able to heal at all.
What most it can do is give an emergency treatment or manage the illness somehow at the level of suppressing its symptoms only.
Care is there but cure is rare.
Humanity needs a new breakthrough in this direction.
