Marriage Blog: Marriage-Certificate - A Mere Beautiful Piece of Paper
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Sialkot police to investigate the validity of a marriage-certificate submitted by two petitioners, in 15 days.
According to petitioners, Muhammad Rafiq and Musarrat, they had got legally married, but Musarrat’s father registered a kidnapping against case against Rafiq. Musarrat submitted in the court that she had willfully married Rafiq and the abduction charges were false.
“A case had been registered against my husband after my father submitted a petition in the sessions court that I have been abducted,” Musarrat said. The petitioners also alleged that the police were harassing them. The counsel for Musarrat’s father said that Rafiq married Musarrat without prior consent from his first wife, rendering his second marriage illegal. He also said that the marriage-certificate was fake. “The marriage is also illegal because Rafiq has married his first wife’s niece, which is prohibited in Islam,” he added.
The court adjourned hearing till May 8, and directed the Sialkot police to verify the marriage-certificate in 15 days and submit a report in the court. staff report

What purpose will a marriage certificate serve if either of the two partners decides not to continue the relationship in a cordial way?
Will the certificate be able to force her/him to do so?
Then what good is it for?
In my opinion, it is just a legal binding on us in our monetary obligations.
It also prevents us from entering another matrimony if we already, on records, are registered with them.
OK, with that said, it is not able to compel us to behave the way we should with each other in matrimony.
It is just a certificate and not a marriage counselor!
But our real problem in marriage today is not acquiring a certificate but pondering upon its quality that is going on decaying with every passing year on earth!
Can we have any certificate for that?
In fact, it is money that is corrupting everything whatsoever we have in our life on earth whether tangible - like marriage cerificates - or intangible - like the quality of relationship in marriage!
Can we do something with money at the level of controlling our life in such a petty way, rather than maintaining a huge pile of marriage certificates in our offices jam-packed with them for the past hundreds of years in every country?
Can we do something with money on earth, the way we handle it or the way it handles us?
Our marriage certificates will go redundant then, if we are able to do something that really liberates us from being mere slaves to money.
