But if it came out of fear, it badly lacked insight. It acted as a curse and added to our woes. Where does marriage fall in this scheme of evolution? We will sure look into it in depth when we ponder upon the history of marriage. But right now let us focus our attention on to the effects that marriage rewards us or punishes us with in our life. We need a marriage license or a marriage certificate by registering our marriage in marriage records for starting our married life, though common law marriage is fast going on replacing the legal marriage as such. Benefits of marriage are many. The very definition of marriage speaks of the safety, security and stability in the emotional, sexual and social interaction between the male and the female. A happy marriage does not need any marriage counseling for its repair. Love and marriage are considered to be hands in gloves, as are considered marriage and sex as well as marriage and family. Marriage relationships are taken to be a relationship between the two souls more than a relationship between two bodies; and sex in marriage more pious than sex outside of marriage, as well as sex after marriage more judicious than sex before marriage. This is what basically constitutes a successful marriage that does not require any marriage counseling at all! Celebration of marriage speaks of the joy that marriage promises to us.

Isn't it a spontaneous attempt to come out of such drudgery of marriage forgetting all the marriage vows and ultimately turning it into an unhappy marriage? Situation turns more intricate when it results in pregnancy outside of marriage. Another new kind of specialized marriage counseling is needed to deal with such complications in marriage. Sex and marriage go hand in hand and a sexless marriage is the sign of a bad marriage, for which again another different kind of marriage counseling is sought for. Marriage problems are many, many more and each one requires an altogether different kind of marriage counseling. Marriage and divorce are two opposite things, but ultimately, when no marriage counseling works, marriage has to end in a divorce only! Fed up of the drudgery of marriage, people have started trying all the different kinds of marriages! Living together before marriage has come out to be the newest fad of the day. It claims of a better sex in marriage than the ordinary one. The proverbial first night of marriage has gone confined to the storybooks only. Arranged marriage that led the bride to changing name after marriage is fast becoming a thing of the past. Instead, open marriage has started filling the gap that makes no commitments for life and gives sexual space to each other. Likewise the marriage proposals have also changed their language as of now. Some real unique marriage proposals are there in the making every other day now. In such a scenario, less of marriage counseling is needed now than it was, before. An altogether new phenomenon has entered the scene of marriage worldwide lately. Same sex marriage has come up in a big way all through the world. Be it a gay marriage or be it a lesbian marriage, it is threatening the validity of the normal heterosexual marriage. On the top of it, it has also acquired a legally valid status in some of the most developed nations of the world. Whole new chapters are to be written in the books of marriage counseling now!
