Marriage License

Love humanity if you love your love: plant trees!

BAUKO, Mt. Province (30 November) -- To help preserve the environment, all couples applying for marriage license here are required to plant five seedlings of fruit-bearing trees.

Under Municipal Ordinance No. 009, all couples applying for a marriage-license at the Office of the Municipal Civil Registrar in this municipality must have planted five fruit-bearing seedlings either in private lots and/or public lots such as school sites or barangay owned lots within the municipality.

Certification from the Punong Barangay indicating completion of planting five fruit-bearing seedlings should be attached as one of the requirements upon application of marriage-license. Violation of the stated requirement is a denial to an application for marriage-license.

The nearby town of Tadian has a similar ordinance to this effect only that the couple should present the certification of completion from the barangay captain before the marriage-license is released.

Also in Tadian, under Municipal Ordinance No. 98-05, local contractors who undertake municipal and barangay projects are required to plant at least 10 trees or fruit bearing trees within the project sites or any available public land within the territory of the recipient barangay.

These programs of the local government units are also in support to the one million tree planting program of the provincial government.

Marriage Blog Comment:

It's a brilliant idea that must have originated in the mind of some genius who feels bothered about the impending threat of global warming: plant trees if you want a marriage license!

Marriage blog welcomes it.

We can extend this idea in other walks of life as well.

We must save our planet from the danger of global warming anyhow.

And what better than this can be there that if you want to get something from the society, learn to give something back to it...something that has become the question of life and death for the humanity.

If humanity survives, your marriage will too; or else both are going to get annihilated!

Beware!

Five or Forever
