For eight years Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., has coordinated Hospital Career Days as an event to inform high school students on the jobs available in the medical field. Attracting an average of 1,000 students over the course of four days, the event features live broadcasts of surgeries, demonstrations, and unit tours. From nursing to radiology and administration to accounting, students can learn about the career paths and requirements for a variety of professions within the health care industry. Dennis Hoban, director of recruitment services for Renown, said that like much of the United States, Nevada is experiencing shortages of health care workers. Renown utilizes Career Days not necessarily as a hospital recruiting tool but as a way to introduce students to the various fields within the industry. Career News Blog Comment:
Medical careers are required as much as there are people falling ill, going on increasing with the passage of time in the unhealthy civilization that we live in. We only have made it what it is, which makes us keep depending on the medical help all through our life. Our medicine box is always filled with all kinds of tablets and capsules, which we consume as religiously as we take our meals. The chemists' wallets are going on fatter and fatter at the cost of our health! I never consumed a single tablet in my life... and I am 57 years old. You too can! In fact, in a healthy society there should be the least dependence on the medical aids; limited only to accidental emergencies. But we will have to change the world toe to head for that!
