Half Life

What: Alberta Theatre Projects - Half-Life opening night

Love, liberty and the pursuit of happiness had guests of Alberta Theatre Project's opening night performance of Half-Life smiling.

Celebrating ATP's 35th theatre season, Half Life tells the story of two people who meet in a care home and discover that love can find you at any age if you're willing to let it in.

The play written by John Mighton had the audience at the Martha Cohen Theatre joining its main characters, Patrick and Clare, in the twilight of their lives as they embarked on a special journey rekindling old flames, talking about marriage, memories and old age.

Following the opening night performance was a special VIP reception in the lobby of the Martha Cohen.

Half-Life was ATP's sixth production of the season, which included the annual Enbridge Playrite's Festival of New Canadian Plays in February. Half-Life was the winner of the 2005 Governor General's Award and the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play.

Half Life
John Mighton

John Mighton is a great playwrite who has won Canada's richest theatre award.

He was selected from among seven finalists to win the $100,000 Siminovitch Prize in Theatre.

Mighton won two Dora Mavor Moore Awards for his plays Scientific Americans and A Short History of Night. A Short History also won the Governor General's Award for drama.

His work Half Life, currently on tour in Scotland, is on the short list for the 2005 Governor General's literary award.

Mighton lives his life not half, but full!

And we?

You and I!
