Religion
Religion means devotion to a particular symbol of something supernatural. Supernatural is not concrete. It is something abstract that is only there in the mind and not out there in the world. I mean you cannot perceive it through any of your five senses. Sixth sense is as abstract as supernatural itself is. Yeah, the symbol is sure a concrete one! And what we get devoted to when we follow religion, is this symbol only; not the supernatural itself!
OK, why do we get devoted to anything in life on earth at all? Devotion or faith is a characteristic of a child who just doesn't know anything whatsoever as s/he gets born; and has to depend on what others provide to her/him either as food or as knowledge. If s/he does not believe in terms of having a blind faith in whatsoever adults around her/him tell her/him about the world around, s/he will land up nowhere as far as her/his human existence is concerned, and will start her/his human journey at the very animal level from where the very primitive man started it in the very remote past on the planet earth. A child does need having a devotion/blind faith in whatsoever the world tells her/him about the human experience in order to get conditioned to it. The child is devoted to us because s/he is dependent on us - biologically as well as intellectually! This conditioning is a kind of hypnosis that our human experience on this planet essentially is! Now, what does adulthood mean? Or, what SHOULD adulthood mean? Naturally, coming out of this dependence on the adults around having their faith in a certain religion; and standing on her/his own biological and intellectual feet! In other words, freedom from dependence! Freedom from biological dependence! Freedom from intellectual dependence!
Freedom from faith! Freedom from devotion! Freedom from values! In other words, freedom from morals! Freedom from any attachment to these! In other words, freedom from emotions! Total freedom! In other words, salvation! Freedom from religion as well, along with all the other attachments on earth! Freedom from attachment does not mean detachment from the things you were attached to. Detachment is another kind of attachment that our fear from attachment generates. We have not come out of the clutches of the latter yet! Our confidence means we are still a diffident wo/man! Our hatred for something is a clear indication of our fancying it still! Detachment clearly shows that we are still attached to what we think we have got detached from! So, freedom from attachment means being on our own without either being attached to or being detached from anything whatsoever. Even our life! Now we are free to play around with all of them. Even with our life! We are left in a vacuum with no support either from our faith, devotion, values and morals; or from our emotions, desires, aspirations and ambitions.
What guides us then? Is it religion? No, it is our gray matter! That is what our passion or our insight is! It never worked well till we were dependent. The moment we go independent, the gray matter takes the total charge of us. Its passion takes charge of what our emotions were doing to us. Its insight takes the charge of what our values and morals were doing to us. Instincts remain instincts, in their purest and most innocent form! There is no need left to lean toward the religion at all. The passion and the insight guide their (of the instincts!) as well as our (who and what are we?) way from moment to moment as we really turn adult on earth! But, alas, we never turn adult on earth! Our body does, but not our mind! It never frees itself from the conditioning that it had to go through in order to provide the gray matter with the information it needed in order to make sense of the human club in the world it had become a member of. It goes a prisoner to its own tool of the past human experience that had been provided to it just to carry the game further. Of course, life is nothing else but a game on the planet earth! We don't play this game well. So, we don't enjoy the game as much as we could have done. Unless we turn adult, we cannot enjoy this game at all! Simply because we don't play it well! We always remain a dependent child looking for support from the adults around. When our body turns adult, adults around us no more look adults to us. They are as fallible and dependent as we mentally are! So, our eyes turn toward some real adult entity for support, even if the entity is a vaguely abstract one! We create it out of our need for support that our insecure childish mind keeps yearning for! We don't have to create it anew personally, since humanity (which has not yet turned adult!) has already done this job for us. Our symbols of something supernatural! Our various different religions on earth! And we keep sticking to this religion or that, fighting their holy wars with other religions; until we go dead without ever really enjoying our life on earth!
