Programme and project leaders to debate risk management at new conference:
November 1, 2007
Leading figures from the private and public sector are gathering in London next month to debate how to de-risk their major programmes and projects and manage uncertainty.
Programme and project management (PPM) leaders from Orange, Transport for London, the Ministry of Defence, and the NHS will join PPM specialists Moorhouse Consulting at RUSI, Whitehall to discuss how to pro-actively manage the internal and external risks to their programmes, and how to think and act strategically in today's uncertain world of political, economic and environmental change.
Moorhouse consultant and event manager Ian McDougall said he was excited about bringing together over 100 project stakeholders and practitioners from the private and public sector, but warned that leaders of major programmes had more to worry about today than ever before.
McDougall said: "Programme leaders have always had to strike the balance between driving change, managing risk, and operating in complex, changeable environments. But nowadays, increasing policy and regulatory changes and growing environmental concerns are adding to the potential risks they face.
"We'll be discussing how they can manage risk pro-actively, rather than reactively. The more pro-active they are about it, the better position they will be in to not only mitigate risk but also exploit some of the new, positive opportunities that change can bring about."
Management News Blog Comment:
Risk management is the soul of all management, since business as well as life always has those pitfalls that can rightly be termed as emergencies to be immediately taken care of. You cannot always plat too safe!
If these risks are not efficiently managed as they turn into emergencies, right then and there; it may result in a big loss.
Which kind of management skills and what kind of management training do we require for all this?
Being ready and relaxed every moment is the mantra that does it.
And unluckily no management training can teach this to you.
It's only the school that life is, can do so.
Do we learn from life what it has to teach us for our business?
