A teenager's "sexual experiments" with a nine-year-old girl has put him behind bars for four years. Immature Simon Paul Anthony Goode, 19, spent too much time with children far younger than his age, York Crown Court heard. Over an eight-month period, he abused the girl four times under the cover of "innocent games". "You know you should not have done it," the Recorder of York, Judge Paul Hoffman told Goode. "On the other hand, I think you are an emotionally and mentally immature young man. Otherwise, you would never have played with those very much younger children." Goode cried as he was jailed for four years, put on the Sex Offenders' Register for life, banned from being with anyone under 16 for five years and barred from ever working with children. He was also banned from going to the girl's Ryedale village when released from jail. He was 17 when his crimes began. Defence barrister Tom Mitchell said the jurors had cried when they convicted him on the four charges. "It is a tragedy, a terribly sad tale" he said. "But there is little else to say. "This was a case certainly at the start, of sexual experiments by a young offender who was emotionally and mentally immature and little more in reality, in those terms, than a child himself." Mr Mitchell handed in letters from Goode's family and other well-wishers and after reading them, the judge told Goode: "This matter apart, you are a nice, decent man." At the start of the trial, Simon Hickey, prosecuting, described how Goode used the pretext of "innocent games" to take the girl away from her friends and sexually attack her. He abused her in a cornfield, a back garden or patio and kissed her on the mouth in an adult way. On one occasion, he had told her to take her pants off. When she objected, he threatened to do "something worse" which would hurt her, so she took her underwear off. Jane was last seen alive at 7.30am on March 14, 2003, by boyfriend Malcolm Sentence, 34, at their Brighton home. Later that day Jane accompanied Coutts to the swimming baths before returning to his flat in Waterloo Street, Brighton. The trial continues.
