Singing Competition

(EZ-Tracks) - In hopes of discovering the next Johnny Cash and June Carter, Country Music Television has announced that it will air 11 episodes of a duet–themed singing competition beginning next spring. “Can You Duet?, a weekly hour-long series, will be produced by FremantleMedia North America, the company behind Fox's "American Idol" and NBC's "America's Got Talent."

"We're looking for the next Johnny Cash and June Carter, the next Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, the next Big & Rich or the Judds," said Eugene Young, chief creative officer at FremantleMedia.

Each contestant will compete as part of a duo, working with different partners every week and giving viewers insight into the behind-the-scenes drama. Judges -- who will mentor the contestants, critique their performances and decide who advances to the next round and who is sent home -- will be announced at a later date.

Country Music Television, or CMT as it is usually called, is a cable network that airs music videos, taped concerts, movies, biographies of country music stars, and reality programs. CMT is owned and operated by MTV Networks.

Competition Blog Comment:

Singing competition is the craze of the day.

Whenever I happen to watch one on my TV screen, I see three kinds of faces that the participants are with over there.

Before performing they are tense.

After performing they are still tense.

After the declaration of the results they go grim if they lost.

The ones who win go overexcited with immature emotions.

How can such faces have a tongue in their mouth that sings with all the passion of life in it?

Their singing is mere a petty sentimental singing that stands nowhere as far as real quality of singing is concerned.

A competition gives us just the quantity at the cost of switching quality off.

Singing is there to enjoy passion, not to excite emotions!
