Anyone with information about the shooting or suspect is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at 919-890-3555

RALEIGH -- Police are looking for the public’s help in finding a man they say shot three people near a Raleigh sports-bar Saturday.

Officers say a man opened fire outside the Top Rank sports-bar on Poole Road around 2 a.m. Police say he shot Jerry Latwan Harris, Anthony Hinton and Everett Orlandrus Mercer, none of which are seriously hurt.

Officers describe the suspect as a clean-shaven black male in his mid-20s with a slim build, standing between 6’1”-6’2”. He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie over a white shirt and dark jeans.

Sports News Blog Comment:

Out of 10 news items that I scanned for this blog, 6 read like this: "Three shot outside sports-bar", "Two Shot Outside Phoenix Sports-Bar", "1 killed in Northwest Valley sports-bar shooting", "Man Shot to death outside sports-bar", "Man charged with fatal shooting outside sports-bar", "NEW: Arrest made in sports-bar slayings".

What's the problem with the sports-bars going on? Why have they turned such violent places?

Is it that the sports bars, where sports fans watch games on large-screen televisions give vent to our suppressed violence helping it come to the surface and thence to action?

Sports are very apt at being able to do so since the very design of all the sports on earth is made on the pattern of fighting a war and not on the pattern of having fun together!

Shouldn't we beware, not of the spurious violence outside sports-bars only, but of the violence that our basic sports-design is spreading through our psyches all through the world?
