In the last week, letters to The Advertiser have suggested socialism and liberalism are good for our country. How? Liberalism says a certain class of people cannot make it without government. Therefore, elect liberals and the government will take care of you from cradle to grave. Liberalism has taken away parents' rights and given them to government. In some states, one cannot spank his child. It is illegal. Liberalism has destroyed our education system. We are now behind some third-world countries. Child rapists and murderers are let out early and commit the same crimes. This class of people cannot be rehabilitated. Liberalism wants to tell me what to drive and eat, and erodes our freedoms. Liberalism says tax the producers and give it to those who can work and succeed but won't. This keeps liberals in power and those dependent on them in virtual slavery. Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty cost more than $4 trillion, and we still have poverty. There are opportunities and freedom for anyone and everyone to make it successfully. This country did not become a great country because of government, but because of the efforts of the people. Government versus people; the basic difference between conservatives and liberals. Success for all is but a dream that the politicians thrive upon in order to justify their existence and its inevitability whether they are liberals or conservatives. If it is success for every single person around, it no more qualifies to be called success at all. It becomes like air to breathe, which no one dreams to achieve or talks volumes about it. Success is a comparative/relative concept that grows in the soil of competition only. Cooperation has no role to play in the pursuit of success - people only cooperate in order to make a gang to compete with another. That is how the big conglomerates come into existence. If there is no failure, no government is ever needed on earth. Politics will die its natural death then. Right now it's in the interest of politics that success remains a dream only so that it can thrive upon it and keep using it as a slogan in their favor.
