Work is the price of success in life:
November 4, 2007 by HARVEY MACKAY
Practice makes perfect. Not true. You have to add one word: PERFECT practice makes perfect. I wish that I had coined that phrase, but I didn't. Legendary pro football coach Vince Lombardi did. Practice something time and time again and, if you don't know what you are doing, all you are really doing is perfecting errors.
For example, a golfer can go out and play eight days a week. He can practice eight days a week. And if he doesn't know what he is doing, all he is really doing is perfecting errors -- eight days a week.
I have studied Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic, and, quite frankly, people think I am a heck of a linguist. Actually, I am a lot slower learner than most of the students with whom I started my languages classes. But there is one marked difference: I finished. They didn't.
In Japanese, it might take 200 hours of practice. Russian 300 hours. Mandarin (Chinese) 400 hours. But eventually that breakthrough occurs.
Success Blog Comment:
Success in life comes through perseverance. But then, perseverance may come either of the two ways - the way of ambition or the way of passion.
The way of ambition leads to tension. Success comes at the price of stress in the body and in the mind.
The way of passion leads to joy of doing the action. Success does come and comes in a much greater way, but it is no more important to the passionate. What is important is her/his passion itself that in turn imparts a continuous flow of energy in the body and in the mind.
Passion takes care of the perseverance as well as of the excellence of practice that makes it much more than mere PERFECT practice.
