Skiers and snowboarders dressed as Santa Claus gather at The Canyons Ski Resort Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 in Park City, Utah. Anyone dressed as Santa received a free lift pass.

Ski Utah, from $789

Escape to the famous ski resorts of Park City, home of the legendary Sundance Film Festival.

What to do

Perfect snow, ideal terrain and wonderful facilities make Park City the perfect destination for a ski vacation. Choose from three key ski areas: Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort, and The Canyons. Ice skating, snow mobiling and tubing are just a few outdoor adventure ideas. For a good dose of culture and local history, be sure to see the Park City Museum of History and Territorial Jail and the Kimball Art Center, a well-known center for the visual arts.

What to see

Climb aboard the Heber Valley Historic Railroad, Utah's only historic train, to see the best of the local scenery. Or take a romantic sleigh ride to tour the picturesque snow-covered trails. For a bird's eye view of the mountains, take a hot air balloon ride. Tour Utah's Winter Sports Park to see where Olympic athletes train. Be sure to see the park's museum, where you can view films of Olympic events and see costumes and medals used in the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Olympics.

Travel Blog Comment:

I get my best travel deals when I visit a place in its off-season when it carries a real flavor of its culture along and not a formal mask specially worn for attracting visitors.

Everything I put my hands on gets me an unasked for discount, and that too quite a big one!

Also I get a much better treatment from the locals who are much more receptive in their off-season, not for business but for interaction.

And interaction with the people is what I seek for in my travels.

It's a kind of difference that is there in the attitudes of a prostitute and a sex-friend!
