Teen vampire romance 'Twilight' filming in Oregon:
April 17, 2008 by Sarah Skidmore
In this image taken from video, director Catherine Hardwicke, right, and actor Robert Pattinson are shown while filming "Twilight" in a classroom at Madison High School, Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in Portland, Ore. "Twilight" is teen vampire love story and is among four books by Stephenie Meyers that has stirred a slightly fanatic base of preteens fans.
Vampires aren't supposed to be capable of tolerating the light of day. But the sun keeps shining on the set of "Twilight," an adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's popular teen vampire-mortal love story. The book is set in Forks, Wash., and filming is taking place around the usually rainy Pacific Northwest.
But the weather isn't cooperating, so fake rain drizzles down the window at Madison High School in Portland, enhancing Robert Pattinson's chalky complexion as he sits in a classroom inside.
Amid the microscopes, dictionaries and biology posters, Pattinson's character, Edward, appears to be an average student. Looking all jaw and cheekbones, with an intense gaze, he is the paramour of classmate Isabella, played by Kristen Stewart.
Smitten with Edward's good looks, Isabella fails to immediately notice a key personality trait -- he's a vampire.
"Edward is the reluctant 180-year-old vampire stuck in the body of a 17-year-old boy who falls in love with a mortal and destroys both of their lives, in a romantic and loving way," Pattinson said.
"Twilight" is the first in a series of best-selling books by Meyer, a graduate of Brigham Young University who lives in Arizona, that has gathered a slightly fanatic base of preteen (as well as teen, post-teen and adult) fans. It has two sequels to date, "Eclipse" and "New Moon," and the fourth and purportedly concluding volume in the series, "Breaking Dawn," arrives Aug. 2.
The series has sold more than 5.5 million books domestically, and has been on the best-seller lists of The New York Times, USA Today and Publisher's Weekly.

Romance Blog: Vampire Romance
Vampire romance is our escape into an imaginary, safe thrill from the drudgery of everyday mundane reality.
We have suppressed our natural instincts so much so that they are expressing themselves in such distorted shapes now.
The way we live turns us sex-starved as well as fond of enjoying violence.
And the two have a very deadly combination in what we call vampire romance.
We don't love our fellow humans around us - in fact the ways of our society stop us from doing so, so we need vampires to love hypothetically!
Running away psychologically from the world of reality, we start living in a world of fantasies that are nothing more than petty violent and crazy.
Humanity is turning crazy, we need devising some treatment right now... or else it will be too late to cure!
